Craft Warehouse DT Assignment 3 (Part 1)

For our third Design Team assigment we got to work with Crate Paper's Farmhouse collection.  It was awesome, I love this paper and all the great coordinating pieces.  The buttons and brads are especially fun.  The first part of our assignment was to create a 12 x 12 layout using multiple pieces of the patterned paper from the collection, brads, buttons, diecuts and chipboard stickers from the collection.  We were also to incorporate some of the Tim Holtz resist kraft paper.  Here's what I came up with.

Sweet Family Moments Layout

I didn't know what to do with the resist paper until I got the idea to create a recipe book.  I trimmed a recipe card from the accent sheet and trimmed two pieces of the resist paper to serve as the pages inside the recipe book.  Fold all pieces down the center and adhere the inside pieces towards the spine so you can open the book.  I added a sticker that says Memories on top and embellished the fron cover.  You could easily use this to hide some journaling or extra pictures you wanted to include.

Honeymoon in Paris Layout

Each month I look forward to the Scrap Club meeting at the Salem, OR Craft Warehouse store.  Some of my best layouts are created from the page challenges that they give us.  For September we were given several pieces of patterned paper from Bo Bunny's "etc." line.  The paper reminded me of traveling in Europe, so I dug through my pictures and found this one of my hubby and I on the plane ride to Paris.  We actually flew into Paris but travelled several locations for our "European" honeymoon, but I liked "Honeymoon in Paris" for the title.  Here's what I came up with.

I used alpha stickers from Authentique, some resist kraft paper from Tim Holtz - I used glimmer mist on them but it's hard to tell.  The resist paper I punched a strip using the Martha Stewardt doily lace punch and also used the Tim Holts medallion dies

Craft Warehouse DT Assignment 2 part 2

For this part of the assignment we were asked to create a set of 4 cards using the Christmas Eve Chowder line from Jillibean Soup.  I really enjoyed working with this line and might have to go get more.

First is a gift card holder ~

For this card I used a template to cut all the pieces.  I used We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool for the stitching around the stocking and hand punched the stitches on the insides of the patches.  The Martha Stewart doily lace punch was used on the band for the closer.

Photo Card ~

Check out split coast stampers for the template to make this recessed window card.  I enjoyed making this card, probably becaused I love this photo of my daughter.  It works well with this paper line.

Tri - Shutter - Elaborate card ~

This template can also be found at splitcoaststampers.com under tri-shutter card.  I love making these cards and the flowers add a nice touch.

And finally my Simple card -

I really wanted to use the penguin paper and was happy to fit it onto this simple card.  I added a sparkley brad to the top of the penguins hat and other than that it's just paper, die cut stars and a sticker.

Craft Warehouse DT Assignment 2 part 1

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted anything.  The last couple months have been busy and somewhat full of computer problems.  But, I'm able to edit photos again and hopefully will get back to posting regular posts.  So without further ado here are the first two pieces from my second assignment for the Craft Warehouse design team.

For this assignment we needed to create a layout and a card / tag using the Apple Cheddar line from Jillibean Soup.  Though this is something that I probably would not normally buy, I love this line and enjoyed creating with it.  The biggest challenge...we were only given a 6x6 pad of the line so we had no 12 x 12 pieces to incorporate into the layout.  Here's what I came up with...

Sweet 2 The Core Layout -

To create the flower I cut two 1 1/2" x 6" strips and two 1" x 6" strips and punched the all on one side using the Martha Stewart doily lace punch found at Craft Warehouse.  Once all pieces are punched I scored at every peak and valley and folded at each score. I then attached the two 1 1/2" strips together and the two 1" strips together to create one long strip. Connect the two ends of each piece to create a circle. Then I attached the larger piece to a scrap piece of paper and adhered the smaller piece on top.

Here's my card -

For the card I stamped the image from Pebbles Inc, on several sheets of patterned paper from the collection and hand cut each one out.  I layered them so a bit of each were showing and placed the hand cut basket on top.

Craft Warehouse Design Team Assignment 1

For our first DT assignment we were given one of the new lines from the new company Authentique.  I received "Blissful", the yellow line.  This would have been the last color pallet I would have selected so I'm glad it's what I got as it was more of a challenge.  We also received coordinating die cut pieces and stickers from the line and ribbon from American Crafts.

Assignment 1.1 - 12 x 12 layout, using multiple pattern paper, ribbon, some of each embellishment provided and must include one paper alteration technique.

I began thinking my paper alteration technique was going to be fussy cutting flowers out of one of the pattern papers.  However, I wasn't liking the results and ended up creating a ribbon type flower using strips of pattern paper.  I did use one fussy cut flower with the two postage stamp icons on the bottom left.  One of the nice things that Authentique offers is the backside of their die cuts have a coordinating pattern on the back so you can use the front or the backside, which I've used here.

Assignment 1.2 - Create a Card or Tag using at least two of the pattern papers, two embellishments and the unity stamp provided.

I chose to create a pocket card because I thought it would showcase the papers well.  I used black cardstock to create the base.  I stamped the bird stamp on the gray and yellow papers and cut around the scallop on the yellow and around the circle on the gray. I used to of the die cut icons one on the outside and one for the sentiment on the inside.

Assignment 1.3 - Create a layout using several papers, Tattered Angels glimmer mist and resist chipboard.

For this layout I started  by glimmer misting the entire 12 x 12 piece of resist chipboard.  Loved the look until I went to use it with the paper.  I don't own a lot of dies to die cut the cb so I tried tearing a piece.  It started to bend and crease when I started to tear it so I ended tearing and crumbling it to give it a distressed look.  I didn't like the mustard seed glimmer misted chipboard with my paper choices so I ended up running my black VersaFine ink pad over the top.  The result, a subtle hint of glimmer through the black ink.  Love the look.

The Story of Us

Week 7's challenge for My Scraps Got Talent was to create a layout based on a sketch and using a song title off of Taylor Swifts new album "Speak Now".  I had  a stash of the new "Blissful" line from Authentique and a ribbon flower I had created and just had to use.

Here's the sketch -

Here's my layout -

Cardstock is Bazzil Basics, PP, stickers & icons / dies from Authentique's "Blissful", Ribbon from American Crafts.

My Scraps and More week 5 challenge

It is week 5 of My Scraps got talent over at My Scraps and More,  This weeks challenge was to create a layout using a picture of yourself.  I was dreading  this one as I don't like to scrap just myself.  But then I came across a wedding photo that I hadn't scrapped yet and it was easy from there.  I'm trying to keep my wedding album in the purple theme since that was the color of the bridesmaids dresses and flowers.  I've had the embossed floral paper for several years so I was happy to be able to use it here.  I've also tried to use items left over from the wedding on the layouts for the album.  On this layout I used a heart charm from a card we received, the flowers are leftover from some of the wedding favors we made and the journaling card is extra from the cards we had for guests to leave notes for us on.

My Scraps and More week 4 challenge

The challenge for week 4 of My Scraps got Talent over at My Scraps and More was to create a layout using product from just one manufacturer.   I decided to try out the My Mind's Eye Lush goodies I won over on the Craft Warehouse blog.  I've always thought these were fun papers but never really new what I would do with the flocked paper.  But I wanted to use this line because I had coordinating papers, ribbon, brads and chipboard alphabets to work with.  I kept it pretty simple and just added a title and a few embellishments.

The mini challenge this week was to create a card using some of the scraps from the layout.

Here is my layout and card.

My Scraps and More week 3 challenge

So I'm a little behind in my posts but our computer is back up and running finally.  So, the week 3 challenge for the My Scraps got talent at myscrapsandmore.com was to create a 2 page layout using papers that you would not normally use together.  I had a hard time with this one since I usually create single page layouts.  I used photos from my daughters first fishing trip out on our boat.  I combined some fishing / outdoor themed paper with paper from a spring stack of paper and cardstock.  I tore strips of blue glitter cardstock for the water and fussy cut out elements from the fishing patterned paper. For the title I used a variety of white chipboard letters from Close To My Heart and added touches of embroidery floss and rhinestones.

Here's my layout

Soar

Here is my latest creation.  This layout is the result of the papers supplied by the very generous Salem Craft Warehouse scrap club and a sketch challenge I participated in for myscrapsandmore.com. I was excited when I chose this set of papers because I knew I had some pictures of my family kite flying that I hadn't used yet.  Though then I realized that the kite was a totally different color scheme.  Luckily, there were some pictures of my daughter reaching for the soaring kite and it worked well for this layout.

Here's the sketch.

Here's my layout.

SF Art

I recently came across a challenge on myscrapsandmore.com, the My Scraps and More's Got Talent.  This is an 8 week challenge that started with the first challenge this week (well June 3rd to be exact).  There is a new challenge each Friday and you have until midnight Thursday to post your layout and continue on in the contest.  This weeks challenge was a color challenge that was to include glimmer mist or distressing as well.  Here's what I came up with.

My layout started with yellow card stock and I sprayed with a yellow / orange and a tinge of red glimmer mist.  The paper is from My Mind's Eye Lime Twist .  I really wanted the focus to be on the picture so I stayed with minimal embellishments including zippers and a clear acrylic piece I've had in my stash for awhile.  I also used some orange floss to add a bit of texture (Thanks to Jennifer Evans for the idea).

Carousel Center Pieces

My youngest daughter is turning 1 in a week.  I've been working on center pieces to compliment the party scene.  Here are two center pieces I've completed.  I found the template for the carousel at canon creative park ( http://cp.c-ij.com/en/contents/2028/03473/index.html ) where you are actually supposed to print the template in color on photo paper and you then cut an assemble the pieces.  I cut the pattern after attaching it to the paper I wanted to use.  The assembly went smoothly the first time so I made a second one.  These actually turn and the animals go up and down as it turns.  This is my first attempt at something like this and I'm pleased with the results.  May have to try more some time.

Craft Warehouse Scrapbooking Blog Party: Scraplifting Challenge

My next layout was for the Scraplifting challenge.  I had a hard time finding three pics to work together like Elizabeth Wiederspohn's original so I ended up using only one.

Here's the original

Here's mine

Paper and embellishments are from K&Co.

Craft Warehouse Blog Party - It's A White Out!

Wow, I can't believe how many layouts I've gotten done in the last few days.  I need more of these challenges and deadlines to keep me going.  Here's my latest layout which I made for the "It's A White Out!" challenge.  I've done one other layout that was monochromatic and really enjoy these challenges.  Luckily I had some black and white pics on hand to choose from.  Here is my all white layout.

I used textured white cardstock for the base and punched all those flowers using a retro flower punch.  I then placed each flower on a foam mat and used an embossing tool to create a more 3 dimensional flower.  I created the wreath around the photo and added a rhinestone center to each flower.  The title is Thickers letters.

Craft Warehouse Scrapbooking Blog Party: A Sketch Challenge

I'm not a big sketch user.  I see them in magazines and don't really pay much attention to them.  So for me this was a challenge to see what I would come up with.  This challenge was to create a layout or a card using this sketch.

Here's what I came up with.

I used paper from DCWV Cotton Bloom Stack, American Crafts ribbon and stickers, paper flowers, rosette ribbon from the Dear Lizzy line, and a little bling from Kaiser Craft.
